Portfolio

Today we worked on our professional portfolio. I was not able to fill a lot of it out yet because I have not had the courses that deal with the different standards.
My professional portfolio will grow as I go further through the program but until I have completed all my classes there will be empty spaces.
Here is a link to my portfolio.

-When using Windows Live Movie Player you can share directly to Facebook or Youtube. One can change the animation of how the pictures will appear on the screen, change the contrast of the picture, change to wide screen, and much more. However the file that you save to your desktop will be much greater then the file you saved as a Photostory, therefore it will take a lot longer to download or open. Whenever you create your profile you will want the video to upload quickly and work.
-Bender Converter
A tool that you can download youtube videos to your computer so you download it even if you don't have internet access.
  • Just a note you want to save as a WMV file aka movie file.
We also worked on our proffessional portfolio

POP quiz

What I have leaned about Google Documents:
  • Google documents does not work well with Microsoft word
    • I did not save my word file as a PDF file so when it appeared in Google Docs it was messy which is not professional at all
  • Does not work at all with Excel.
  • Is easy to store papers on because they are always there and easy to assess.
What I have learned about APA:
  • American Psychological Association
  • Most teachers use
  • Citing is different the MLA
  • Page header on each page
  • Double spaced
  • 1" margin on all sides
Here is a screen cast on how to install an analysis tool pack in Excel.
Finally here is how you use the Tool pack to do a T Test

class on 03/29

Last class period I was absent but I recieved an email about what to copy and past into my reasearch project. This project has been very confusing for me with APA format. I have done previous papers in the APA format but nothing like this. A link that hels cite information in APA is Purdue Owl.

EXCEL spreadsheet 3

Today, we took results from a previous research project and learned how to do the following things:
-Formula / Function / Cell / range /Active cell / Column / Row / Handle /Context sensitive cursor
-Count, Countif, % formula, function, syntax
-Copy and paste formulas and/or functions.
-Functions / Function toolbar / Keyword search on function / Syntax / Formulas
This will help us easily get percents and numbers fast.
Also, Google docs does can not load some of the formuallas that Excel uses. Do not load excel spreadsheets to Google Docs, instead email it as an attachment to yourself or save to a jumpdrive.

Today we looked at the NCES website and compared WV to the national former assessments, in the feilds of math, reading, writing, and science. I created a document comparing the two on Google documents here is my 4th grade document and my 8th grade document. To create the graphs we used Kids Zone.

The Standards for this activities are:
1b. engage students in exploring real-world issues and solving authentic problems using digital tools and resource
3c Communicate relevant information and ideas effectively to students, parents, and peers using a variety of digital-age media and formats ,

Wordle

Today we created a Diigo acount. Diingo allows me to bookmark certain websites and organize them in a way that is easy for me to find. Diigo is nice because I can access all my bookmarks over the web. I can tag key words to make the bookmarks easy to find.

Another tool we learned about today was Wordle. Wordle allows you to find out what the major points were in speaches, standards, and many other things. I used President Obamas State of the Union adress of January 2011. The following clip is my result.

Video Screen Capture

Jing allows video cature as well as image capture. The output format is .swf-a flash video file. Being able to cature images and video is important in that you can incorporate items from your screen into a cariety of documents including word processing docs, web pages, and presentations. I wanted to show how to set the default program for a computer.

The screencasted version of my video is available online

Creating a digital video without a camera
Publishing a video to the web (free screencast account)
NETS T standard includes the modeling of 21st century work and learning.

My Picassohead

My Picassohead is a website where you can create a self portrait using pre-drawn sketches. This activity didn't have a lot of options to choose from and didn't let me go back and click on the lips if I wanted to change the color. After trial and error I figured right after I placed the lip, or any other feature I had to right away change the color. Here is the link to my Picassohead.

Empathy

The results of my empathy test really surprised me. It said I received an average score but it was a low score. I really think I am an empathetic person. My friends seem to like to talk to me about their problems and they seem to be relieved after they talk to me.
Going into my profession I really need to be able to have the power of understanding and imaginatively entering into another person's feelings. Children think different then adults do so I really need to understand how they learn before I can teach them. ISTE NETS tries to have teachers create lesson plans to teach children about empathy.

Keirsey Temperament (post-test)

After taking the test, I discovered that I am actually a Artisian. I really am not good at the fine arts, and while I'm care-free I'm not as care free as the description said. However, it explains that Artisians will do whatever works. While I am working on a hard math problem if I know a way that works, I will stick with that way and not let the teacher show me another way to do it until I am completely comfortable.
Knowing what personality type helps me understand the way certain people react to somethings I say. Also, that works vis versa it helps me understand why I react to certain things others do.

Keirsey Temperament (pre-test)

In making a guess about my the name of my personality, I would guess that I am a Guardian. A Guardian respects the laws, rules, and the rights of others. I am terrified of getting in trouble, so I tend to pay close attention to the rules. If I were to not be a Guardian, I would expect to be an Idealist. Idealist try to act in conscience and want to reach their goals without compromising personal beliefs. I try to do whatever I can to get to where I want without doing something I would rather not do. I really do not think I am an Idealist or a Rationalist. If Artisans have to they will bend the rules to get a quick effective payoff. I try to do whatever I can to not bend the rules at all. Also, Rationals are self contained, they focus on problem solving, yearn for achievement, and love technology. I know I am not a Rationalist, because I'm not comfortable enough with technology so I try to avoid it.

Snipping Tool

Today, we all filled out a survey and was able to see the results of survey immediately! We worked with Google Forms to create different graphs. The forms were simple and the computer did all the work! After we formed the graphs we learned about the "Snipping Tool". The snipping tool is like copy and paste but better. You can choose what area you want and use the whole area. Also, you can change the color of your boarder by clicking the button on the right that reads "options". This is a picture one of the results of the survey that snipped with the tool.

Calendar

Today in Instructional Technology we learned how to make calendars on Google.  This will make it easy for parents to see what the class is doing on certain days. To see what if I am available click here to see my Calendar!

Thursday, January 20, 2011

On day one we created a Google account.
Day two we created a new document in Google Docs from a template, then published it to the web.
After we completed that we created our own blog and a post with that.  We learned how to edit the blog and change its layout.  We made sure that it was in the right time zone. Finally we created a hyper link to publish in the post.
This is helpful to teaching because I can save my resume and portfolio on here and it can never get lost.
